Pieta House South East opens in Waterford City

We were delighted to attend the official opening of Pieta House South East tonight in Waterford City – VERY proud on behalf of the DIL committee to have been involved in the very start of this process. There have already been a number of clients seen since Monday – our people given hope, their families given support & relief – so thank you Pieta for becoming part of our community to help us in our darkest times. And thank you to EVERY one who’s ever walked, ran, sold plants, made CDs, rattled buckets in pubs, clubs, shopping centres, did fashion shows, coffee mornings, bag packs, hikes, cycles, or ANY thing to raise money for Pieta SouthEast – this is where your money has gone, and is already saving lives. So, now, more than ever, we need to continue these great events to ensure this service continues until the day it’s no longer needed. #savinglives

HikeCycle 2016

This Saturday July 23rd is HikeCycle 2016. In Aid of Waterford Marine Search and Rescue and Carrick Search and Rescue. Hike only, Cycle only or do both 🙂 To make sure that HikeCycle 2016 is a safe event, we have a strict speed limit in place during the cycle of (20-22kph). We understand that some parts of the road will be faster than others but we must stress that if you break away from the pack and out of the relative safety of the pace car, you will no longer come under the cover of the event insurance… HikeCycle 2016 is NOT a race. It will however be a good test of endurance, stamina and lots of fun. Registration is from 8am sharp until 9:30am at which point we will start the first half of the cycle. If you do not register in time, you cannot take part in the event. So please make sure you are registered before 9:30am. Before the start of the event we will hold a short briefing with all participants outlining rules and what is the order of the day, including safety on the road, Bike storage/security, Hike, Changing facilities, and not forgetting BBQ. If you are participating in the ‘Hike’ only, you will need to register with our team in Kilcash village on the day at 11:00am where you will be briefed and given instruction. And finally, please have your sponsorship cards with you on the day and any monies will be collected by our team. Thank you for your help and cooperation. https://www.facebook.com/HikeCycle2016/?fref=ts

Person rescued from the river suir

Earlier this evening our volunteers were alerted to a person entering the river a short distance away from our base at the Neptune Marina. WMSAR rescue crew and boat launched immediately, contacting Irish Coastguard on the way. The assistance of Fire Brigade, Ambulance, WCRR and Gardai was also requested. On arrival on scene, the casualty was struggling to stay afloat, was initially combative and appeared to be in an altered state. The person was recovered to the boat and quickly passed over to the care of the Emergency Services.

WMSAR visit Fethard Lifeboat Station

WMSAR crewmembers had the very great pleasure of visiting our fellow volunteers at Fethard Lifeboat Station yesterday. The team told us all about their inaugural WAVES Festival in association with RNLI which will be headlined by Irish country music sensation, Nathan Carter. This event is to be held on Sunday 28 August 2016 within the walled gardens at Loftus Hall, in the historic coastal area of Hook Head. The family themed day-long music event is being run in aid of the Fethard RNLI fundraising appeal, which is set to raise €65,000 needed for a new Inshore Lifeboat, due to be placed on service in Fethard at the end of 2017. Tickets are available from www.tickets.ie or from selected SuperValu or Centra stores nationwide. We look forward to assiting with safety cover at the event and wish Fethard all the very best in their campaign,
