It’s no coincidence that this unique event takes place just as we’re coming into summer and our spirits are being lifted. Well over a quarter of a million have woken in the small hours of the morning and taken part in Darkness Into Light to date, and this year it will touch the lives of thousands upon thousands in 100 plus venues across Ireland and internationally. One of our goals is to have a centre within 100km of every person in Ireland and we’re well on our way to achieving this. To help bring us closer to this important goal we have identified three areas most in need of our service -namely, the north west, the south east and the midlands Pieta House is coming to the South East.

Crews save person from water 02/05/16

Volunteers successfully dealt with 2 incidents of a suicidal nature while on duty last night. The first occurred shortly after 2 a.m. when a female was prevented from entering the water on the City’s quayside. Despite further attempts to enter the water, volunteers kept the person safe until the arrival of Gardai. Before the first incident was concluded, crew members heard shouts for help from the water a short distance up river. WMSAR rescue boat was dispatched and promptly recovered the person to safety. These incidents could have had very different outcomes without the presence of our teams. Thanks also to An Garda Síochána, Waterford Ambulance Service andIrish Coast Guard.

Enda O Doherty what a inspirational Man

Crews from WMSAR are gearing up for our Suicide Prevention Patrols of the Quays in Waterford City. There is help and there is support out there. Enda O Doherty what a inspirational Man. “4 miles to go and the pain was everywhere except in the smiling faces around me. Legs, shoulders burning so close to home yet so far”. Pictured is Enda O’ Doherty the man with the washing machine. Enda seen here in severe pain after walking from Belfast to Waterford to raise much needed funds for a Pieta House in Waterford City to service the South East of Ireland. Enda shared the load with his team on his journey and a weight was lifted off his shoulders. This shows that just by having good friends and family around you and willing to admit needing help and support you can walk many miles. One step at a time.Check out Pieta Challenge Belfast to Waterford Walk to donate €4.00 and please give the page a like and a share.
