DEVIL’S BIT KNOCKOUT

On Friday evening the 05.08.2016 Waterford Harley Davidson launched the “DEVIL’S BIT KNOCKOUT” boxing showcase in Aid of Waterford Marine Search and Rescue and Saviour’s Crystal Boxing Club at the Tower Hotel Unlike any other charity boxing event this event will have all the characteristics of a professional boxing night. The night takes place on Friday 14th October 2016 at 8pm. Tickets are €15 each Ring girls, entrance music, ten bouts of boxing, a raffle and a half time show with special guest Darren Skelton from the hugely successful “View from the Blue”. Saviours Crystal boxing club will begin training boxers for the next 8 weeks up to the event. ***Call Out – 07/08/16 At 05:50 am*** Waterford Gardaí intervene with a male attempting to enter the River Suir to end his life by suicide by drowning. Waterford Marine Search and Rescue, launched our rescue boat to assist Waterford Gardaí with an incident on Rice Bridge in the early hours of this morning. Crews were on scene with in minutes as members from Waterford Garda Station spoke to the male who was over the railings on Rice Bridge with the intention of entering the water. Waterford Gardaí safely talked the male back over the railings to safety. Our rescue boat and land team returned to base and were stood down. Also on scene were Waterford City Fire Service , WCRR, An Garda Síochána, Waterford Ambulance Service and coordinated by Irish Coast Guard. WMSAR visit Fethard Lifeboat Station

WMSAR crewmembers had the very great pleasure of visiting our fellow volunteers at Fethard Lifeboat Station yesterday. The team told us all about their inaugural WAVES Festival in association with RNLI which will be headlined by Irish country music sensation, Nathan Carter. This event is to be held on Sunday 28 August 2016 within the walled gardens at Loftus Hall, in the historic coastal area of Hook Head. The family themed day-long music event is being run in aid of the Fethard RNLI fundraising appeal, which is set to raise €65,000 needed for a new Inshore Lifeboat, due to be placed on service in Fethard at the end of 2017. Operations continue tomorrow

WMSAR volunteers have completed their third days searching in Fiddown for a missing person. Also present over the weekend were our colleagues from Carrick River Rescue and Kilkenny Civil Defense, as well as numerous local men and women who assisted. Thank you to An Garda Síochána and Irish Coast Guard. Operations continue tomorrow.

PIETA HOUSE SOUTH EAST will be based in Waterford City Pieta House South East will be located at Waterside in Waterford City in the coming Months. The journey that started over 3 Years ago by members of the public and business people in the South East is nearing completion. A team of professionals took on the task of finding a location for Pieat House South East and they have worked very very hard over the past 15 months to find a suitable location. Massive work has been done byBookaroom Waterford, Purcell Properties, Sunlife FinancialWaterford,James Renolds Architectural & Planning Consultants, Frank Grogan Quantity Surveyor and Pieta House, Preventing Suicide and Self Harm in securing the premises. Since the start of Darkness into Light in Dungarvan in 2013 and Waterford City in 2014 the wheels have been in motion to bring PIETA HOUSE SOUTH EAST to Waterford City for people in need of Crisis intervention in relation to suicide and self-harm taking in Waterford, Ireland KILKENNYVisit Wexford Clonmel Carlow, Ireland Newross just to name a few. We can not forget the hard work that the committees from Darkness into Light do and a massive THANK YOU to you all ….. And the Biggest THANK YOU is to the Local people all over Ireland for donation to Pieta House no matter how big or how small. It’s no coincidence that this unique event takes place just as we’re coming into summer and our spirits are being lifted. Well over a quarter of a million have woken in the small hours of the morning and taken part in Darkness Into Light to date, and this year it will touch the lives of thousands upon thousands in 100 plus venues across Ireland and internationally. One of our goals is to have a centre within 100km of every person in Ireland and we’re well on our way to achieving this. To help bring us closer to this important goal we have identified three areas most in need of our service -namely, the north west, the south east and the midlands Pieta House is coming to the South East.
