RIP Captain Dara Fitzpatrick

Today we joined with numerous SAR groups and Irish Coast Guard units from around the country at the funeral of Captain Dara Fitzpatrick in Glencullen. Described by her colleagues at Rescue 117 as “Daughter, Sister, Mum, Friend and Hero”. On this sad day we think of those crew members still missing, Paul, Mark and Ciaràn and we hope that they will soon be returned to their loved ones. Go Mairidis Beo.

** A STOLEN RINGBUOY **

*** A STOLEN RINGBUOY = A STOLEN LIFE! THINK BEFORE TAMPERING!*** During their Suicide Prevention Patrols last night, our crews retrieved 16 ringbuoys from the water and surrounding areas. These ringbuoys were tampered with and then discarded into the river by individuals who probably thought it was a great idea at the time but do not realise or even ignored what the consequences of their actions might be. Please remember that if someone gets into difficulty and there is an empty box where the ringbuoy should be you are endangering and hampering any efforts to save that individuals life. THINK BEFORE TAMPERING!!! If you see anyone tampering or interfering with any of the ringbuoys located throughout the city and county then please contact Waterford Gardai immediately on (051) 305300.… Read More

Odd Socks for Katie campaign

As our crews begin this weeks patrols along the quays of Waterford City we would like to bring another very important awareness campaign to the forefront. The Odd Socks for Katie campaign is run in the hope that people will continue to remember Katie Murphy by reminding others to be safe and responsible on our roads. Our patrol crews will carry out their patrol with their odd socks in the hope that this small symbolic gesture might be a useful way of starting important conversations about the dangers of speed and the sense of loss that people are experiencing at the moment. We hope that people will continue to remember Katie by reminding others to be safe and responsible on our roads.
